The Memphis Group was an Italian design and architecture group founded in Milan by Ettore Sottsass in 1981 that designed Postmodern furniture, ceramics, objects, fabrics and glass from 1981 to 1987.
You might not have known it by name, but their designs are so specific and popping out, that you must recognize it when you see one. The colourful decoration and asymetrical shapes are feeling like a graphic fantasy shape of exotic nature.
At this time, the Memphis Style is really popular again and seen as an inspiration to a lot of brands, stores and designers - Designhouse HAY for example. Have a little inspiration yourself with the following original Memphis designs.
