In the furniture industry there is a lot of waste from the use of leather. Many parts can't be used as, for instance, they were damaged or were dyed in the wrong color. These leftover pieces formed the inspiration for a collection of furniture called the Skin Collection, an ongoing project that was started in 2011 by Dutch designer Pepe Heykoop. Heykoop wrapped up old chairs and benches in assemblages of small leather pieces in the same colour range that he attached to each other by hand. The furniture covers seem to almost grow around the old and discarded pieces of furniture. In his working process for this collection Heykoop beautifully combined craft and sustainability, which resulted in playful and dreamy designs.
