//DESIGN AND LOVE FOR FLOWER
Flower engineer Andreas Verheijen mixes his interest in design and love of flowers to create inspiring installations. What started as a love of gardening and a passion for plant material has turned Andreas Verheijen into a flower engineer.
He has a degree in horticulture, specialising in floriculture, and design training at an art academy. Verheijen has been creating inspiring installations using various plants and flowers. He also works for Harrods, on his experience as sales executive and buyer for the florist division.
Now based in Amsterdam and working as a freelance designer, Verheijen creates projects and installations for a variety of clients and publications. He also dissects plants and reassembles them into new hybrids.
Verheijen explains the engineering element of his work: “Engineering is an ongoing project and is initially about creating flowers and not about arranging them. Apart from being proposals towards new varieties, the engineering series should primarily be seen as a laboratory towards shape, colour and texture in a broader sense than just the flower industry.”
