//IRA CHERNOVA

Photographer Ira Chernova was born and raised in Moscow. I recently got familiar with her work through the cover of the new album “Tell me I’m pretty” from Cage the Elephant. It’s a beautiful portrait. Ira first gained attention with her experimental self-portraits. Her outstanding beauty and her photographs combine brutality and femininity, hardcore sexuality and teenage innocence. You won’t meet many people like Ira Chernova. She’s named as one of 25 young photographers to keep an eye on. Her images are characterized by moody, highly intuitive, black-and-white portraits.

Chernova’s parents used to shoot film back in their student days. So she has inherited the Zenith and Fed cameras from her parents. That was the start for her photography. Ira Chernova is too lazy to spend a lot of time in front of the computer screen, as she explains. She’s always trying to reach her desired settings while shooting. Her work is raw, clean, natural and emotional.
