Marilyn is both an illustrator and an animator, who graduated from the Willem de Kooning Academie in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. "I want to tell people stories. Not my own story, but the story of the entire world." Sonneveld chooses subjects that she thinks are important, subjects that need to get the attention and need to be in the light of day, in the sake of us needing to know more about them. These subjects are unknown or don't get the attention they need, because they seem to be shameful, difficult or boring. Marilyn tries to get closer to the people by making humorous, abstract or absurdist illustrations or animations about the factual information. We can consider political, sexual or pedagogic subjects as the ones Sonneveld is pointing out in her work.  "It's like letting the story and the people play chess together. I am the game that brings them together"
